A Community Tunneling Protocol
Now ... what was I looking for? Oh, yes. It was the
ever elusive coherent thought...

I came very late to Vespers Sunday night and I realized, with about ten minutes left in Eric’s message, how much I felt disconnected from the community. My excuse for being late was a pretty good one. I had been preaching in Chandler in the morning... Anyway, the excuse doesn’t matter, I was simply out of the loop. My worship was affected and so was my sense of what the community was doing. Afterward people talked to me and made reference to parts of a message I hadn’t heard. Not wanting to be exposed, I simply nodded and went along with what they were saying. I know, I know, that is part of my sin issue, but let me assure you the disconnect was very real. On Monday as Kathy and Derek were talking about elements of the message, I realized again that I couldn’t really share in what they were talking about since I hadn’t heard it in its entirety. Also a meeting was cancelled that didn’t need to be cancelled simply because I wasn’t there to set the record straight. Some of us don’t think it matters if we show up late or not at all. I think we’re wrong. When we are at Vespers we have impact and are impacted. When we are not at Vespers or extremely late to Vespers, the whole community is not what it should be. Besides when you come really late you miss the band at its best and those cute little Village girl urchins handing out rhythm instruments. Pastor Rod
