Our journey begins with a leakey ceiling. On Saturday it rained in Tucson (The purpose, of course, a cosmic foreshadowing of our trip to Seattle). Water poured through the ceiling fan like a sieve.
Four days later, here we are in the wee hours of the morning. At the airport in Tucson standing before the scarab sculptures... or are they glass replicas of coffee canisters? Eric was not happy about his picture being taken. Elliott didn't seem to mind. We had obediently arrived 90 minutes in advance of our departure time, but no one was around to let us in to the gates.
After a fairly mundane flight (Elliott was fidgety but mostly content), we drove straight to one of our favorite places on Planet Earth: the Metropolitan Market on Queen Anne. Great soup. 5 kinds, some of which rotate on a daily basis. And we had chance to meet the chefs -- and even snap a photo! Eric was not so excited about this. Sue, however, had a delightful conversation with the chef on the right and discovered the lineup of soups to come in the next few days. Also got to have an incredibly brief but rewarding conversation in sign language with someone else who was taste-testing ("Yes... it's delicious, isn't it? Oh, excuse me -- I need to get to the cheese").
