I spend a lot of time feeling DEEPLY UN-SATISFIED.
I was talking to God about this again today, and the Holy Spirit brought this these words to my mind:
"Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not SATISFY?"

I looked it up...Isaiah 55...

1 “Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat..."

That's good, God, I feel quite broke.

2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not SATISFY?

Oh, is my labor...Is my labor my minutes and thoughts (and dollars) spent grasping about trying to make life feel bearable?

"Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the RICHEST OF FARE."

I'm listening. Richest of fare sounds good...please satisfy me...

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Oh. You're right. My thoughts...my ways....Hmm. I compulsively think about: what I can buy--to feel better, what I can do--to get others to like me better. Or how to make my life work. And none of it satisfies over an hour.
Now your Holy Spirit reminds me Jesus, of Your words in John 6.

27 "Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. 29 The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Yeah--that IS when I'm satisfied. When I'm believing.
That is the real work of life, isn't it? All the other good stuff we do--good choices, loving others, kingdom work...everything else good is really just overflow of believing You.
Reminds me of Eric's Hebrews 3 sermon about drifting and "getting a check-up." I was planning that check-up, but dreading it. Now I'm almost looking forward to it. After all, I want that "richest of fare."
