Subject: Time Management

I think of myself as a person with serious time management weaknesses. And I love to learn new things. So I occasionally check out the latest time management book from the library. Sometimes this has been fruitful in helping me to figure out my priorities and make wise choices. However, I recently started in to a book that turned out to be a big stumbling block. It was all about living into "core competencies" and basically "outsourcing" everything else. The people interviewed for the book were all in high-profile careers, research, or organizations. I kept walking away from the book thinking that I seem to be wasting most of my time as I go about the normal stuff of my life. But there was no framework in it for life in the kingdom of God, where servanthood is highly valued and relationship with God and others is a thing of beauty. I finally repented of trying to make my life matter on my own last night and stuck the book back in the library bag. This morning I noticed this little index card with a little piece of Psalm 90 written on it. I realized that it contains everything that I really hope for in my time on earth: to be satisfied with God's unfailing love (which, I must remind myself, is in every way unconstrained by time), to be full of joy, and to trust that God Himself will make my efforts fruitful.
