Susan Park & I were actually talking about it after Vespers on Sunday. I was actually going onto the website just now to say, how about the following Saturday, the 17th?

My motives for putting it off until the next Saturday--
--it should be a bit less crowded with it not being opening weekend (therefore, allowing for more last-minute ticket purchasing) (not purely selfish motive)
--I'll be done with work (i.e., grading for the quarter) and will be able to enjoy it (purely selfish here)

I guess we could always have two groups going. I'd like to do the new "usual" which is go to Park Place, then gather afterwards in the Food Court and discuss what we liked (or what we didn't) about the adaptation, etc. I'm glad I KNOW I won't have to suffer through to lines like, "Hold me Anni, like you did by the lake in Naboo." (That was the previous group movie--otherwise, very fun to see.)

Also, the other 6th grade language arts teacher (another Christ-follower) & I just received our much-anticipated class set of 40 copies of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." I was delighted to discover we had been funded for the more expensive, higher quality paperbacks--you know, the heavier weight paper, less acid content, i.e., they won't fall apart in 2-3 years of use. I had my aides cover 'em all with clear contact paper today, and I'm ready to get crackin' with the novel tomorrow. As often happens with a children's classic ("new classic," like "Holes," or a longstanding one), many students are familiar with it, read it in fourth grade, had it read to them, etc. Most of them don't seem to mind that they're getting it again, though. I'm a little anxious to teach it; I have never taught any book that's so close to my heart, and there are always kids who will whine and complain and hate things I love... oh well, so I'm putting it out there, anyway.

I read this book at age seven, the year I started to follow Christ, and it's really shaped my imaginings of the Battle. Yes, please pray for the spiritual implications of reading this book. I'm going to take it there whenever I can..especially if/when the students take it there (so pray that they do!)

Susan, anything to add to the movie plan? (You brought it up first, but we probably were thinking about it at the same time.) Anyone else want to weigh in?

Oh yeah, you can type www.narnia.com in your browser & you'll end up at the Disney site where you can poke around a bit...my 20th century computer at school is a bit overwhelmed by the site, but a DSL connection on a better computer than mine will give you (or your kids) a fun peek at the artists' take on Lewis's vision. It's very "always winter and never Christmas" looking, for sure.

I want to go, but next Saturday I will be working. So, I would be up for this Saturday, but I do understand the whole crowd thing and tickets.

I vote for next Sat, because then school will be done. I am hoping that people in the village with kids would bring them to the movie too ...

Sorry Cheryl!

So far, these folks are going to Park Place on Saturday the 17th. I wish I could go to Narnia, but I guess I'll have to settle on Park Place...

We'll probably go 1-ish. I'll post the confirmed time to the website on Friday morning. If I'm buying your ticket for you in advance on Friday evening, meet me at the entrance 30-15 minutes before showtime, 'cause earlier means better seats! A reminder: parking will be difficult at hard-to-Park-in-December Place. Happy hunting!

My students have two words to describe Lucy's and Edmund's first forays into Narnia: "Stranger danger." ;-)
