I have long held for myself the idea that I should only ask God for things that I really need and only talk to him about serious things and mostly only things that I want for other people. I’ve mostly lived my life trying not to want anything for myself. This last year, however, God has been leading me in the direction of seeing him as a good dad. Having no memory of my biological father [who died when I was 2] and having had 10 years [age 10-20] of an unloving [to say the least] step-father, I have been at a loss to know what good dads are like, much less to find in my inner being what I long for in a dad. So about 6 months ago, I ventured out to ask God to give me a laptop, knowing full well that I don’t NEED a laptop. I mean, I’m not in school or working in some business realm where I have to do work on the road. It’s just something that I wanted, so I asked. Around that time, I was working on the computer and an ad popped up for InternetOpinionGroup.com to get a free Sony VAIO laptop. Now usually I disregard these as bogus, but this time I decided to see if this was God answering my prayer. I checked it out and found that I would have to complete 6 of their sponsors’ offers [like transferring a credit card balance to a 0% discover card, trying a free month of AOL’s Music Net, signing up for a trial of some vitamin things]. Anyways, it looked like if I stayed on top of canceling free subscriptions and stuff, I could meet all the offers with a pretty minimal expense. So over the past 6 months, I’ve been jumping through various hoops [like click on this link and they email me something that I print out and snail-mail back to them] with each hoop taking about 6-8 weeks to work its way through the system. All the while, I’m thinking this is probably not going to come to anything. A few weeks ago, they sent me a check for $1150 in lieu of the laptop. It was enough for us to replace our failing desktop AND get me a laptop. It’s so unbelievable that God would answer such a prayer, but here I am, typing this blog on my new, tiny [I love tiny things] 4.5 lb laptop with a 60 gig hard drive [large enough for all my music and pictures and documents], wireless internet built in and a DVD-CDRW drive. It’s really all that I had hoped for. The only other time I have asked God for something like this was when Keith and I had one car and I asked God to give us a second car. He did [really, someone gave us a car]. Maybe he’s trying to teach me something about himself and how he feels about me. So thanks, God, for doing immeasurably more than I asked or imagined…

Booj,
[Is it not okay to call you by your real name here?] There really are some good dads out there. I have one. He's not perfect, of course. But God is definitely the best! I hope you're enjoying your new laptop. That is awesome!
