As we have been talking at the Village about sustainability as a part of maturing toward mission, Keith and I realized that I need to have more of an income for us to manage our finances in a way that we can focus on giving and living and less on keeping our heads above water.
So along these lines, I'll be starting a new job next week at a small, step-down rehab facility that's connected to the larger, initial rehab place that Lori works at. It's a 30-90-day program and houses up to 10 women. It helps transition them back into regular life after they have completed initial rehab work. I'll be a behavioral health tech and will join a counselor on campus to make up the staff for each shift.
I will still be working for the Village part-time on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays I will be working the overnight shift [1030p-630a]. I've never worked a night shift, so we'll have to see how it goes. There are a lot of advantages to this particular shift, so I'm hoping I can manage the sleep issues well.
This will definitely be a full-time schedule, which I'm hoping to manage well with my family responsibilities. Please pray for us as we move in this direction.
I'm very excited to have found a place to work that feels connected to my passion for inviting people into healing and freedom. It's a different role I'll be playing than doing soul-care at the Village, but they seem very honoring of the work I do here. They even boosted the initial wage that I agreed to work for because they decided to count my work at the Village as experience. This was pretty encouraging, since sometimes the secular world does not recognize an uncertified counselor working from a Christian-based training as a positive thing.
When I was trying to re-work my soul-care schedule to accommodate this new job, I got kind of stressed out. Then, as I was researching "rest" for the Village 101 group, I was reminded that God opened this door 3 days after I prayed for more income and financial responsibility for Keith and I, more money for my Mom [who has advanced dementia] so she can transition into a home instead of living with my sister and her husband, and financial sustainability for the Village. I believe this was a clear answer to all of these prayers. The words I read about rest in the Bible talked about our souls resting in God in the midst of turmoil and burdens and fears. I felt like God was saying I would be able to rest in him, even with a full schedule. So, starting a new job is scary, but I am believing that this is a good gift from God. |
