El Tour ’14

As just about everybody knows by now, I’m riding in the El Tour de Tucson this year.  I’ve dreamed about doing this ever since I moved to Tucson almost 30 years ago, and I’m finally doing it.  I’ve been training for several months, and am ready to do the 55-mile version of the race (hopefully, next year I can do the whole one!).

This is really exciting for me, and so I thought I’d post publicly to let you all know it’s happening this Sat (the 22nd).  Yeah, it’s the same day as the Soup Supper – but I should finish in time to make it to church.  🙂

Em and the kids will be at a place or two along the route to cheer me on (and resupply me if needed), and I was hoping that there might be a few other friends there, too.  I can give estimates where I’ll arrive at various places now, but depending on conditions (like whether I find a group to ride with, whether there’s wind or not, etc.) my time could vary by plus or minus a fair bit.  If you want to be in the loop day-of, email me; I’ll have my cell phone, and will be sending out updates about my progress, and I can have my mom relay the information to you.

Currently, my guess is that I’ll get to these places at around these times:

  • Depart Swan & Ft Lowell 10:30 am
  • Swan & Sunrise 10:50-11:00 am
  • Oracle & Ina 11:15-11:30 am
  • Canada del Oro Riverfront Park (Lambert between Oracle and La Canada) 11:45 am – 12:15 pm
  • Tangerine and I-10 1:30-2:30 pm
  • Cortaro and I-10 2:00-3:00 pm
  • Arrive Armory Park 3:00 – 4:30 pm

Here’s the official map.

  2. WOOHOO RUSS!!! What amazing athleticism and commitment to train and stick with something. May Jesus be with you on this journey! Corey and I will see if we can be there near the beginning to cheer you on. We support you and believe in you.

And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:11 May it be true for you Russ!
